VA FIREFIGHTER GAMES – A CELEBRATION OF OUR COUNTRY’S FIRST RESPONDERS

Course Details

The Virginia Firefighter Games will challenge firefighters from across the region in a test of strength and endurance. The competition allows the public to get real insight into the level of performance demanded from firefighters every day as they display the rigorous skills required to save lives.

There are five aspects to the course which are all run by individual-entry competitors or one each for a relay team-entry groups of 5.

Hose Carry & Climb:  Carry a 42-lbs hose pack to the top of a four-story tower and placing the hose in a box at the top.

Hose Hoist and Descend:  Pulling 42-lbs hose pack up (dead lift) four stories hand-over-hand, placing on the deck at the top and descending four stories of stairs.

Forcible Entry:  Using a Keiser Machine evolution.

Hose Advance:  Zig-zag through a course of fire hydrants, pick up a charged 1 3/4″ hose line, pull it 50′ and discharge at a target.

Victim Rescue:  Drag a 165 lbs. rescue dummy 75 feet to the finish line.


CATEGORIES:

FOR ALL CATEGORIES, REGISTRANTS MUST BE ACTIVE CAREER OR VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS OR EMTs.   FOR EXPLORERS CATEGORY, REGISTRANTS MUST BE ACTIVE MEMBERS OF THE FIRE EXPLORERS.

EXTREME Firefighter Individual Race:  In this category, competitors will be wearing full PPE, SCBA and be ON-AIR during the race.  This category is often used by individuals who run these competitions regularly throughout the country.    End of day award for top time will be given in this category.  Competitors in this category should bring their own PPE, SCBA and face piece.

Firefighter Individual Race:  In this category, competitors will be wearing full PPE, SCBA but will NOT be on-air and will NOT be wearing a face piece.  *Note separations by gender and age group.   End of day award for top time will be given in each of the age/gender subcategories.  Competitors in this category should bring their own PPE.  SCBA will be provided for competitors.

Firefighter TEAM Relay:  This is for all ages, all-male or mixed gender groups of 3-5 participants who will relay the course and each competitor will run 1 or 2 segments depending on the size of the team.  In this category, competitors will be wearing full PPE, SCBA but will NOT be on-air and will NOT be wearing a face piece.   End of day award for top time will be given in this category.  Competitors in this category should bring their own PPE.  SCBA will be provided for competitors.

All-Female Firefighter TEAM Relay:  This is for all-female groups of 3-5 participants who will relay the course and each competitor will run 1 or 2 segments depending on the size of the team.  In this category, competitors will be wearing full PPE, SCBA but will NOT be on-air and will NOT be wearing a face piece.   End of day award for top time will be given in this category.  Competitors in this category should bring their own PPE.  SCBA will be provided for competitors.

Firefighter Fun Race:  In this category, competitors will be wearing a fire helmet and gloves, NO PPE and NO SCBA.  There are no end of day awards in this category.  Helmet and gloves will be provided for competitors in this category or they may bring your own.

Explorer Team Relay:  This category is for competitors ages 16-21 who are active in the Fire Explorers program.  Teams can be comprised of groups of 3-5.  In this category, competitors will be wearing a fire helmet and gloves, NO PPE and NO SCBA.  End of day award will be given for top time in this category.  Helmet and gloves will be provided for competitors in this category.
